WHY CHANGE THE SAND FILTER MEDIA TO AFM (ACTIVATED FILTER MEDIA) ?
AFM (Active Filter Media)
The AFM filter media are imported directly from the Dryden Aqua Factory located in the UK. AFM is made from special glass bottles that are recycled and have gone through an activation process as a substitute for sand in the filter media, which serves to prevent microorganisms, prevent bacteria from creating biofilms and mucus which causes the filter media to clump and create wormhole channels.
AFM Benefits:
1. Prevents bacteria from settling
2. Lowers chlorine oxidation levels by up to 50%
3. Save 50% air during back wash
4. Can last a long time so that it takes a long time to change
5. Fast return on investment.
Silica sand which is commonly used as a filter medium is good but also a perfect home for bacterial growth. The bacteria attach to the sand by secreting the alginate jelly. Alginate forms a layer that provides a home for bacteria and even protects them from oxidation by chlorine. Alginate glues the sand together and clogs the seams and promotes the development of wormhole channels. Therefore, the sand media must be replaced within 6-12 months.
AFM usage is 85% of sand usage. If your filter uses 1000kg of sand then the AFM usage is 850kg.
AFM grade 1 with sizes 0.5 mm – 1.0 mm
placed at the top of the filter as much as 70%
AFM grade 2 with sizes 1.0 mm – 2.0 mm
placed in the middle to support grade 1 by 15%
AFM garde 3 with size 2.0 mm - 4.0 mm
Placed at the bottom to support grade 2 by 15%
